Hey Yall! This week's do it for the story adventure was On Friday, April 6th.
My friend Sarah and I set out for a mission to see the tulips in Mt. Vernon Washington for the Tulip Festival. #doitforthestory
Sidebar: I met Sarah at a coffee shop in Capitol Hill, Seattle. I was leaving the coffee shop and saw her drinking coffee, and it was the PERFECT pacific northwest photo. I have been working on my photography eye, so I asked her through the window if I could take a photo of her.
She smiled and nodded yes. lol, I took the photos, then walked back in. I introduced myself and told her how cute she looked and that I couldn't resist! She laughed and told me that she had only lived in Seattle for a week! I told her I was fairly new as well, then we exchanged numbers and planned a coffee date for later that week! #makefriends #bekind #maktub
Okay, back to the story, The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is held during the month of April to celebrate millions of tulips bursting into bloom. The festival has been around for the last 34 years and attracts people from all over the world!
Sarah is a Seattle newbie and has a similar bucket list of items that she wants to accomplish in the Pacific Northwest, so we decided to do this one together! We have a lot more on our radar! #doitforthestory
We drove about an hour north of Seattle to Mt. Vernon, Washington via I-5 N. Mt. Vernon It’s a quaint town with about 34,590 people. It has cute shops, record stores, great art and a nice suburb, country “hometown” feel.
We parked the car gathered our cameras and paid our 7 bucks to see natures beauty in the RoozenGaarde.
I stepped into the garden, anxious and excited. The smell was amazing, it was a breezy 64 degrees with a little sun. It was the perfect day for tulips!
We began to wander the grounds and I realized that some parts were extremely muddy. I had no idea it would be like this and wore my BRAND NEW vans. I needed to have my rubber boots on!
Sarah was prepared and so was everyone else. (I’ll be ready next time lol) I snapped a pic of my fresh vans, and gave a silent RIP prayer to them and headed into the mud. You only live once, I wasn't gonna let the mud stop this mission, it was apart of the story!
I can throw them in the washer and add some character to them. I wasn't trippin!
It was PHENOMENAL. Sarah and I literally took over 400 pictures. Some on our cell phones and some on my camera that I’m still learning how to use. The flowers were so beautiful! So serene.
We frolicked in the tulips, disobeying the rules of not going in between the rows. (sorry lol)
As with all things governed by Mother Nature, the tulips bloom according to their own schedule sometime during the festival. Some of the tulips weren’t in full bloom yet and others where FULLY BLOOMED.
The tulips reminded me that that is also how it works for us. There is a time to plant, there is a time to grow and there is a time to bloom and harvest. God has different plans and timelines for the tulips and for our development.
Trust your journey. Trust the process. We all bloom at different seasons and times. Next month will be a year that I’ve lived in Seattle and I feel like I am just on the rise to bloom. Blooming as a woman, blooming in my passion and blooming in my purpose. I’ll be 30 in 6 months and I feel like things are starting to click and fall into place like Tetris. (I’ll get into that more next week on my half birthday review.)
Keep planting, embrace the rain it will help you grow.
R.I.P. burgundy vans, you were so fresh. I'd only worn you once before this day.
You complimented my mustard yellow dress and headband like no other!
We will get you cleaned up and revived lol.. dirt add character to ya! lol
Spending the day in Mt. Veron with Sarah was good for my soul. She is my kindred spirit and I am so grateful that the universe conspired to bring us together. Take the scenic route! Enjoy nature!
If you are in Seattle or the pacific northwest, you should definitely take the journey to admire the lovely tulips in Mt. Vernon. BRING YOUR RUBBER BOOTS! lol
Gentle Reminders:
Embrace your place.
Embrace your journey. You are there for a reason. Nothing is a coincidence. #maktub
