Hello, Happy Sunday!
I'm backkkk this week I am sharing what we are reading in my bomb bookclub #werebooked and my experience at the Seattle music festival Capitol Hill Block Party #CHBP !
Let's start with the book club!
Over the past 6 weeks, we have been reading Molly Boom's book "Molly's Game".
In this story, Molly Bloom reveals how she becomes the Poker Princess, by building one of the most exclusive underground poker games in LA and New York. Hundreds of millions of dollars were won and lost at her table. Molly’s game became the game for those in the know—celebrities, business moguls, and millionaires.
The book shares a behind the scenes look at Molly’s game, the life she created, the life she lost, and what she learned in the process.
It's a book that I wouldn't normally pick up, but thought it was worth the read. The movie was pretty good too! I'd recommend the book before the movie (of course.)

In honor of the poker-themed book, we reviewed the book and had a poker night. One of our book clubbers, Leslie hosts a poker game for women frequently and offered to host and teach us how to play. Leslie was/is an AWESOME host and poker teacher. She provided us a cheat sheet and ran through a variety of terms and types of games.
I was so intrigued! This was so bomb and badass. How fly is it for women to know and host there own poker games! FLY AF.
I asked Leslie how I could be invited to "Leslie's Game" on the regular so i could continue to learn and add whiskey drinking poker player to my BOSS skillset. lol Leslie had a set squad for her game, just like Molly did in the book, so i was gonna have to bribe her/ tip her to get in! hahaha jk * jokes.. read the book*
We played about 5 games before we realized, how much math was involved ( i don't do math, I am a communicator lol) and that quiet Radhika was killing us in the corner!
You gotta watch the quiet ones, her poker face was ON POINT. She won $8! ( we were playing baby games, with fifty cent buy-ins.. we were rookies lol)
After the final hand, we selected the next book for the 6 weeks, which is...
I have gotten a lot of requests to join our book club, but we are not opening it up for virtual members just yet. BUT please feel free to follow the blog, books and read along with us! I will bring your comments over to the book club and share with you via email/ comments! :)
On to the next! Capitol Hill Block Party #CHBP2018
if the music is there, i'm there! #CHBP2018
#CHBP is an annual, 3-day music festival and block party held each July in the heart of Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood...MY NEIGHBOORHOOD!
I chose to live in Capitol Hill because of its hella liberal, artsy, the music scene is lit and there are restaurants and bars galore. Basically, I choose to live here because it is legit in the mix of the city and I can walk to work!
the 3 amigos! Hey Heather! Hey Chelcie! #CHBP2018
Anyway, every summer Capitol Hill is SHUT DOWN for its annual music festival and block party.
The indie/ underground music scene has always been my JAM ( get it.. LOL) So since this festival was happening LITERALLY in my backyard, I had to get in that thing.
It was a six-stage setup of both indoor and outdoor venues, multiple beer gardens, and VIP lounges. CHBP featured some big-name artist, local talent, and lesser-known performers across a variety of genres!
I AM HERE FOR ALL THE LESSER KNOWN artist. I have a playlist on Spotify catered to just that, so honey I was in heaven!
My FAVORITE artist of the day was Gavin Turek. Not familiar? Peep her on my instastories and on Spotify. She is ELECTRIC! Her sensual voice, disco/ alternative sound is unmatched. I was mesmerized by her stage presence, voice and dance moves. She is my girl crush all month long!
She danced ALL over that stage and swung that magic fro around the Vera Stage at block party! Go Gavin Go! I am here for it and I WILL GO THE DISTANCE FOR YOU!! ( lyrics, go listen lol)
I also enjoyed the performances of Jamila Woods and ParisAlexa. Parisalexa is a local up and coming Seattle artist with fly swag and nice vocals.
Parisalexa on Vera Stage
I wasn't familiar with Jamila Woods before the show, I was eating pizza ( of course I had pizza) at Via Tribunali and had to walk out of the restaurant to see who the angelic voice was. It was JAMILA WOODS! She is AMAZING! The black girl magic was POPPIN at block party!
Peep her latest album Heavn below:
I missed the Chet Porter show because i wasted some random ass shit on my fresh white tee smh. :(
Luckily, I live two blocks away and was able to go change and make it back to secure a Seattle Dog, grab a Jameson and ginger ale, meet some new friends and watch Brock Hampton close it out!
Brock Hampton had the crowd on FIRE and the moshpits were in full effect and encourage.
I love music festivals, but I don't do moshpits. LOL
CHBP exposes its 20,000+ attendees to a diverse blend of acts that appeal to all music tastes and ages. The crowd was also pretty diverse, and it wasn't overwhelming packed as I imagined it could be. The fashion and people watching was worth the day pass itself lol. The hipsters had the looks going on honey! lol
The beer/ drink lines weren't long, but they could have been more efficient with the ID showing thing. Give me an additional bracelet or "X" on my wrist lol.. I will lose my ID with the constant removal and showing. Come on yall, let's make it easy for ALL OF US.
CHBP has created a well-known name for itself alongside many other national festivals and I think it is deserving of the spotlight and recognition! I felt a mix of SXSW/ ACL mixed with Jazz Fest in Nola. I will definitely be in that thing next year. I am looking forward to Bumbershoot next month! If the music is there, I'm there.
That's all i got for yall today! If you're in Seattle go to CHBP today! If not, go listen to the playlist on Spotify and pretend you are there with us!
Have a good week! xoxo
Cheers,
Jasmine Rashae
